The other of Indiana’s two BIG schools have apparently found their new head football coach.
After Tom Allen was named Indiana’s new head coach on Friday, multiple media outlets are reporting that Purdue is set to hire Western Kentucky head coach Jeff Brohm in West Lafayette. Brohm appeared to emerge is the front-runner over the weekend, especially after the Hilltoppers beat Louisiana Tech in a conference championship game Saturday. Brohm apparently had been in the running in some manner for the openings at Baylor and Cincinnati.
SB Nation has an interesting story on why Brohm, who runs a pro-style, spread offense, might be an even better fit than former Oklahoma State and LSU head coach (and Michigan alum) Les Miles.
Brohm did play for a few years in the NFL, even starting a few games with the San Diego Chargers in the late 1990s. He will replace Darrell Hazell, who went 9-39 during his time in West Lafayette. Brohm is expected to have a sizable rebuilding program ahead of him.
This means the Boilermakers won’t be getting Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck, one of the hottest names in the head coach carousel that is sure to spin in the days and weeks ahead. It appeared for a few days now that Fleck would be more likely to consider other opportunities that could include Oregon.
